For the Kiwis, it was a welcome opportunity to get back on the water. The team ran out the clock on its 30 days of sailing on its first AC72 last month on December 12. Under the Rules, the team can't start sailing with boat two until February 1.
Luna Rossa Challenge last sailed its AC72 on December 19, and the team is allowed 13 more sailing days before the end of the month.
Emirates Team New Zealand says boat two has yet to be delivered to the base for commissioning, but in an interview before Christmas, Nick Holroyd, the Technical Director for the design team, anticipated the new boat would come online early in February.
