The racing has been close and hard-fought at the Red Bull Youth America's Cup Selection Series. After six races for each team, the New Zealand Full Metal Jacket team is just four points ahead of the sixth placed Danish Vikings, who won their last race of the day to stay within reach of the leaders.
"You can see by the results on the water how close all the teams are," said co-Sports Director Roman Hagara. "With one day of racing left, they're not making the decision on selection very easy for us!"
"The results tell us that the teams are quite close in what they are achieving on the water this week," agreed his colleague Hans-Peter Steinacher. "We will need to consider all the other factors we've seen over the course of the week, as well as the race results, as we make our selections.
"And of course, we still need to see six more teams next week before we can make any decisions."
Friday is the final day of the first round of the Selection Series. Beginning Monday, six new teams will be in San Francisco to press their case for selection to the Red Bull Youth America's Cup in September.
