The America’s Cup and broadcast partner NBC Sports were nominated for an Emmy Award in the Outstanding Craft Achievement Category at the 34th Annual Sports Emmy® Awards.

The award for Outstanding Technical Team Remote, however, was presented to ESPN for its 3D production of the Winter X Games 2012.

Outstanding Technical Team Remote recognizes achievements for remote production. In the case of broadcasting America’s Cup World Series races, there is not a single cabled camera or audio source. Eighteen live video sources and 110 audio channels are gathered via RF.

The list of nominees also included the Games of the XXX Olympiad, The Masters golf tournament and Major League Baseball. Overall, more than 170 nominees were announced in 34 categories.

This is the second consecutive year the America’s Cup has been included in the mix for a Sports Emmy. Last year the America’s Cup received the George Wensel Technical Achievement Award for AC LiveLine, the outstanding graphics package that illustrates the boat’s relative positions to one another over live images.
