Luna Rossa's Francesco Bruni beat Ben Ainslie's team on the weekend to win the Argo Group Gold Cup in Bermuda.
Bruni, representing Luna Rossa, beat the Ben Ainslie Racing Team, which featured Artemis Racing's Iain Percy. Ainslie and Percy were racing for the Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation, which is the beneficiary of their prize money.
On the water, the final was close and tense. Although Bruni had the better of all the starts, the final score was 3-2 in favour of the Italian, who is hoping to get back on the match racing circuit for 2014.
“I wasn’t expecting it to go so well," Bruni said. "I have to thank Luna Rossa for giving me the opportunity to come here and the guys who came here with me did a great job.”
His crew all sailed on the Luna Rossa AC72: Spanish 49er Olympic gold medallist Xabi Fernandez, Britain’s Nick Hutton and Italian Pierluigi de Felice.
