ORACLE TEAM USA became the second America's Cup team to launch and sail an AC72 on Friday, taking its new boat, '17', out on San Francisco Bay in the morning.
"We got the boat in the water and got sailing. We slowly brought it up and everything was looking good," said skipper Jimmy Spithill.
But the session was stopped short due to what the team has described as a daggerboard failure. The boat and crew returned safely to base.
"We're going to have to pull the boat out and go straight into the shed and see what happened..." Spithill said. "I think with a brand new class you always have challenges and we've seen that already… This is part of the learning process but how we react as a team and how we solve the problems, that's what is very important."
