Emirates Team New Zealand took out a special guest on its AC72 this week, when Chris Nicholson, the skipper of the Volvo Ocean Race entry Camper, stepped on board.
Before he'd even set foot on the boat, Nicholson took note of the technology and the speed from his vantage point in the team chase boat.
"People maybe take it for granted, this type of thing, but I think it's a very special time in sailing to have boats like this on the water," he said. "You might never get to sail on a boat like this again, so I'm looking forward to it…
"It looks like a really delicate little boat, sensitive and fast, but then you have to remember its a 72-footer. It looks cool. I reckon the public are going to love it!"
And he was even more impressed with the team after stepping off the boat.
"The one thing I noticed was the level of intensity. (They were) pushing it at a higher level than I thought for this stage. All good signs. It's a pretty serious bit of kit…"
