Eduardo's role
Date of Birth: December 20, 1971
Place of Birth: Madrid, Spain
Nationality: Spanish/Irish
Position/responsibility: Electronic Systems Designer
Eduardo began his career in the America’s Cup working for the Meteorological Data Service that provided weather data to the competing teams in 2007.
After that he joined ORACLE Racing in the fall of 2007 and has been with the team since.
Eduardo is another of the Spanish members on the Performance Team. He designs new electronic systems in a role that he describes as research and development, but which also provides solutions to the projects determined by the team’s designers.
“I get up with difficulty and the day goes downhill from there,” says Eduardo in a light-hearted manner.
“I use a number of software tools for my work, such as CAD packages and software development tools to write the firmware for our instrument systems,” Eduardo says. “I use 3D CAD to design accessories for our systems and, when new electronic boards arrive, I use an oscilloscope and soldering iron to test. This can be the most fun.”
Before diving in the America’s Cup arena, Eduardo worked for eight years at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, where he developed the electronics for one of the accelerators used in the large hadron collider.
Eduardo describes himself as an enthusiastic but average sailor. Nevertheless, he teamed with design team member Dimitri Despierres to win the Valencia Snipe Championship. Over the past dozen years he’s participated in kitesurfing when the time allows, a sport he describes as the best to come out in decades.
