Javier's role
Date of Birth: March 6, 1976
Place of Birth: Tarragona, Spain
Nationality: Spanish
Position/responsibility: Computer engineer on Performance design group
Javier joined ORACLE Racing after the 32nd America’s Cup.
Holding a degree in computer engineering, Javier can often be found designing the computer and/or electronic solutions to provide the sailors and designers performance data.
“In particular, I’ll help with the design of the systems that will be installed on board and will write the software required to acquire and process the data either in real time on the boat or on shore, so the data arrives to the people that need it the format they need,” says Javier.
Given his background, the Spaniard is often surrounded by computers. He has two or more at the office that are used for developing software, he maintains the embedded computers on the sailboats that register all of the data, as well as the Toughbooks used to monitor systems in real-time during trialing sessions on the water.
“When there’s no sailing, I’m usually in the office writing software or testing new electronic toys,” says Javier. “When sailing, I take care of the systems that are on board to be sure that all is working properly. I also collect the sailors’ feedback on what needs to be improved and work to have those request features on the boat as soon as possible.”
