Jose's role

Date of Birth: Nov. 2, 1976
Place of Birth: Zaragoza, Spain
Nationality: Spanish
Position/responsibility: Sailing Instrument designer

Jose is part of ORACLE Racing’s Performance Team, responsible for designing and developing electronic systems and software to measure the performance of the boat.

Jose joined the team after the 32nd America’s Cup where he worked with the Spanish challenge, Desafío Español. There he helped develop the Racing Bravo instrument system, a sophisticated and specialized instrument system with fellow performance team member Javier Cuevas Domingo.

“Javier and I designed the first version of the Bravo instrument system with the university EUPLA in Zaragoza, Spain,” says Jose. “In 2007 the university allowed us to continue the Bravo business from our own company.”

Jose earned a degree in computer systems from the EUPLA in his hometown of Zaragoza, Spain, and earned special distinction with an award for research and development.

Outside of the America’s Cup he was involved in the validation process of the ARINE5 rocket for the European Space Agency. But the America’s Cup arena is his pride and pleasure.

“Personally, I’ve developed my entire career on the America’s Cup from when I was 21 to achieving my first win in the last edition,” says Jose. “I’m especially proud that the last two winners of the Cup chose Bravo as their instrument system of reference.”
