Julien joined ORACLE Racing in February 2008 and was the Sailing Coordinator for the 90-foot trimaran USA 17.

Now he’s Logistics Manager, a task with ever-changing responsibilities. His day is typically spent working on in-house projects, liaising with external parties, but mostly tackling the everyday issues surprises that spring up, all of which need consideration.

“Every morning brings new ideas and surprises,” says Julien. “An America’s Cup campaign may last three or four years, but the timeline is pretty tight. You only have one chance at being a winner, so you need to have your concepts right. Soon, the boat will be on the start line and you’ll know if your projects fly or not.”

Julien is also a successful sailor. He’s raced the Tour de France 11 times, four times as skipper and won the 1999 Tour de France a la Voile Amateur. He’s also a past president of the 420 Class Association, and has won the Bol d’Or on Lake Geneva, one of the largest lake regattas in the world. He has also crewed with ORACLE Racing CEO Russell Coutts in the RC 44 class, working the pit, and was class manager from 2006 to 2007.

In the summer of 2011 Julien and his wife gave birth to a baby girl. “That’s a pretty challenging project compared to the America’s Cup,” Julien says, smiling. “It makes your day in the office with ORACLE Racing look easy!”
