Michele's role
Date of Birth: November 1, 1983
Birthplace: Trieste, Italy
Nationality: Italian
Position: Hydrodynamicist, CFD Analyst, Developer
Michele holds the distinction of being the youngest member of the ORACLE Racing design team. He won’t even be 30 years old when the 34th America’s Cup Match is concluded in 2013.
Michele, who holds degrees in naval architecture and marine engineering, came to ORACLE Racing as the result of a paper he authored, “Theoretical and experimental comparison between the resistance components of a fast catamaran in different configurations.”
“I received an email for an interview after the paper was published, and it went well,” says Michele, who joined the team in July 2010.
Michele is a member of the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) group. “We provide a large part of the data on which the boat is designed, for the hull, wingsail and sails,” says Michele.
Michele’s sailing background includes the Barcolana Regatta in Trieste, Italy, one of the world’s largest annual regattas. He also has been a rower. Nevertheless, he looks forward to future opportunities to get back on the water.
“I’m a ‘sitting’ designer at the moment,” says Michele. “When we will finish the boat we should (maybe) have more time to go on the water.”
