1957
January 31th: Tank testing competition for a 12-Metre boat between British yacht designers James McGruer, Charles Nicholson, Arthur Robb and David Boyd, under supervision of William A. Crago.

July 13th: the syndicate adopted David Boyd's 'B' model.

October 1957: The building of Sceptre started at the Robertson yard.

1958
Sceptre
was launched on April 2nd, 1958. Its maiden sail occurred on April 11th.
Its first trials were sailed on May 11th against Evaine.

America's Cup races: September 20 to 26, 1958, in Newport, Rhode Island -
Best four out of seven races.
Sceptre vs. Columbia

Course:
South of Newport. The America's Cup Buoy anchored nine miles SSE of the Brenton Reef Lightship. Two alternate courses - one triangular (8 miles to each side) to be used for races 2, 4 & 6 (distance: 24.0 miles); the other windward-leeward to be used for races 1, 3, 5 & 7, was 6 miles on a leg, twice around the course (distance: 24.0 miles).

Races: four sailed.

Results:

Columbia beat Sceptre by four wins to nil!

Races:

- September 20, first race sailed on windward-leeward leg twice around course. Wind: North ½ East 8 knots. Columbia beat Sceptre by 7 minutes 43 sec.
- September 22, second race sailed on triangular course. Wind: North ½ East, 7-knot. Columbia beat Sceptre by 11 minutes 40 sec.
- September 25, third race sailed on windward-leeward leg twice around course. Wind: South West by-West ¼ West, 15 to 20 knots. Columbia beat Sceptre by 8 minutes 21 sec.
- September 26, fourth race sailed on triangular course. Wind: South West by West, 12 to 17 knots. Columbia beat Sceptre by 6 minutes 52 sec.

1959
Sceptre returned in Great Britain where Erik Maxwell bought it.
The boat was shortened by 1.80 metres and the mast was moved aft to improve its balance.

1960
Sceptre raced the Clyde competitions skippered by Robert Bruce and won at Torquay and Cowes.

1961
Sceptre sailed and raced with and against Vanity V and Flica II.

1964
Sceptre sailed as a trial horse for the America's Cup challenger candidate Sovereign.

1965
Still sailing and racing in England

1967
Sceptre raced against American Eagle and won its match race.

1972
Sold to Mr. King in Great Britain. Berthon Boatyard converted Sceptre as a cruising yacht.

1976
Bought by Tony Walker. Sceptre was put in a shed in Lytham St Annes. Tony Walker started an incredible restoration of the yacht, for almost ten years.

1986
"The Sceptre Preservation Society" was formed by Stuart Carter and bought Sceptre that was chartered.

2002
A new consortium was formed to prevent Sceptre to be sold to Italian fans. "The Sceptre Preservation Society" renovated and restored the 12-meter as close as its original configuration.

2005
Still owned by "The Sceptre Preservation Society".
