Just as the America´s Cup has a long, intricate history, so does the city of Valencia. And there is a display up in front of the Media Centre to help visitors understand the city´s transformation.
The exhibit begins with the year 1851, the same year as America´s first win, and follows a timeline all the way through to the city´s plans for the future. Perhaps most interesting are the photographs from the time when horse drawn carriages and women in corsets walked Valencia´s streets.
Many visitors don´t realize that before the Cup was planned to come here, there was very little of what they see today and that at one time the Port area was not even considered part of the city. There are also pictures of the Port area as it was built up in the early 20th century and Valencia as it struggled through floods, wars and economic ebbs and flows.
