The mechanics of a sailboat, the knots and lines, the pulleys and winches, the tools of a sailor’s trade, are no simple matter. And the Interactive Games area in the AC North Park gives everybody a chance to try their hand at sailing’s technical side.

What’s a pulley block, and why use 3 instead of 1? What’s the deal with all the different types of line (and no, you can’t call it ¨rope¨)? Tying a clove hitch knot can’t be any more complicated than tying your shoe…Can it? The answers are all there.

 

Visitors of all ages can learn something from the activities, from the mechanics of pulley systems to the glory of the winch.  Test your motor skills, and your patience, on the wall of knots. Discover that magical little mechanism, the winch, which makes it possible with a little muscle to hoist a 500m² sail. Then get an idea of what the largest waves ever recorded in the Mediterranean might have looked like as they hovered 10 metres high in the Gulf of Leon in October 2003 at the wave display. 

 

The Games are located next to the Veles e Vents promenade in the AC North Park and there is an ever-helpful AC volunteer on hand to help as you struggle through those knots.
