John Kostecki, tactician, BMW ORACLE Racing, on his role:
It was really tricky conditions today out there. Fortunately for us we started ahead and were able to cover. It was still tricky, but more straightforward for us than some of the others out there.
Peter Holmberg, helmsman, Team Alinghi, assessing the team after the first couple of days:
Every regatta we do, each day we're learning and improving. The crew's doing a great job and I'm shaking off the rust with each hour I'm out there. So far it's been a nice improvement since Marseille. The boatspeed seems good. We've found a fast configuration and we're not changing anything, so we're happy with that. It's just down to us to execute.
Meg Gaillard, windspotter, K-Challenge, on being sent 100 feet up the rig:
Eight days ago I was terrified of heights. But I figured it was my only chance of getting on the boat. So if I have to go up the rig, that's what I'll do.
Meg Gaillard on K-Challenge relinquishing their lead to Alinghi:
I think everyone was quite pleased and quite frustrated at the same, because we lost the match on such dumb things.
Jonathan McKee, mainsheet trimmer, Luna Rossa, on merging team members from OneWorld with Luna Rossa:
So far so good. If you can take the good parts rather than the bad parts of two teams then hopefully it's a good formula. But only time will tell.
Andy Green, tactician, Shosholoza, on their lack of horsepower:
We're very, very short of grunt. There were no problems. We're just in a very slow boat.
Grant Dalton, head of Emirates Team New Zealand, on the difference in starting between James Spithill and Dean Barker:
He's starting better than us. I think when you're starting it's a team thing, but the helmsman has a much bigger effect on the result than the rest of the team. The helmsman is the key to the start. There was a point in the past where Dean was kicking Russell [Coutts] in the starting, and he's got to get back there.
Grant Dalton, on being asked if he knows what's going on during the pre-start:
No, I haven't got a lot of idea, but I know when you're in trouble.
