For those who like to fill their days to the brim with America's Cup racing, today's schedule promises more America's Cup action than has ever been seen before. Eight teams racing in twelve matches.
The action starts with the last remaining flight of the 1st Round Robin, Flight 7 in which BMW ORACLE go head to head with Alinghi in a battle of the big guns, a match that is bound to grab attention. Yet the race is significant for another reason. Assuming Luna Rossa and Emirates Team New Zealand win both their races against LE DEFI and +39, the current Cup holders and the Act 1 winners will be scrapping perhaps for third and fourth positions.
While anything's possible in America's Cup racing, few would have predicted at the beginning of the event that these two top teams would be fighting for anything other than overall victory. Instead it's Luna Rossa and the Kiwis that could be fighting for the Round Robin 1 victory on the basis of a tie break, although Alinghi can still join them on six points with a win over BMW ORACLE, and Shosholoza.
As we've seen before, when the pressure comes on, strange things can happen and perhaps today we'll see some of the smaller teams put pressure on the big boys and trip them up.
The third flight of the day will see the start of the 2nd Round Robin with matches between the two French teams and the battle between BMW ORACLE and Luna Rossa promising to provide some of the hottest action.
