Sunday was a quiet day on the water, after Principal Race Officer Peter Reggio was forced to abandon racing due to heavy conditions. However the America’s Cup Park at the Darsena Interior was still the place to be in Valencia, with well over 30 000 members of the public strolling down to take a look at the America’s Cup scene.

With no racing completed on Sunday, Reggio has scheduled an ambitious programme of three full Flights of racing for Monday, with the first match due to start at 11:40. Heavy conditions with West winds approaching 20 knots are expected early tomorrow, with the forecast calling for the wind to ease throughout the afternoon.

In the first Flight of the day, racing begins with K-Challenge against Emirates Team New Zealand, the French team aiming to beat the Kiwis in the ex-Team New Zealand FRA-57. But perhaps the two more interesting pairings in this Flight will be between Cup Defender Alinghi and the series leading Luna Rossa, and the match with Shosholoza battling LE DEFI.

Luna Rossa will need a good day to hold on to its lead on the points table, with a second tough match against the Kiwis on the cards in Flight 3.

In the fourth Flight, the leading will have to be on their guard. Each of the four top teams are lined up against the trailing quartet, any of whom would love to play the roll of ‘giant killer’, knocking one of the top teams dow
