WINNING WAYS AND WAKE UP CALLS

If you thought six days of intense match racing left you with a pretty good idea of how things would pan out in the fleet racing of the Valencia Louis Vuitton Act 3, yesterday's racing proved otherwise. In the two closely fought races there were plenty of surprises and a few rude awakenings for some of the teams as the tables were turned. Two races down in the seven race event and the results so far raise more questions than answers.

Scoring a first and a second, Emirates Team New Zealand were easily the most consistent performers yesterday and are clearly a team on a roll having come straight from overall victory in Act 2. Can anyone stop them?

LE DEFI found their form too and scored a second in the first race and is currently lying fourth overall, can they stay in the top group?

Of the teams with the long faces, BMW ORACLE had a miserable time yesterday with a fifth in the first race and a seventh in the second. Will the American team come back all guns blazing today?

And what of the South Africans, currently lying seventh - has this team turned a corner?

Some of the answers may well come from today's racing which sees another two fleet races in what could prove to be equally taxing conditions. The breeze looks likely to start in a similar fashion to yesterday before decreasing later in the afternoon.
