The Red Bull Youth America’s Cup

The Red Bull Youth America’s Cup (RBYAC) will bring the best national youth teams to Bermuda for racing in 2017 during the 35th America’s Cup series. 12 youth teams will take part in this unique series: six youth crews will compete in Bermuda through their affiliation with current America’s Cup teams and six more teams have been selected by Red Bull Youth America’s Cup Sport Directors, Roman Hagara and Hans-Peter Steinacher. The competition will be fierce: over 20 top youth sailing teams applied for an entry and the teams taking part represent the best young sailing talent worldwide.

The teams will race in a Qualifying Series of fleet races to determine the top eight who will face off in two days of racing scheduled during the week between the final weekends of the America’s Cup Match, presented by Louis Vuitton.

2017 DATES:
Red Bull Youth America’s Cup gets underway in Bermuda this summer with Pool A and B Qualifiers June 12-16, 2017, followed by the Finals scheduled for June 20-21.

For the qualifying rounds 12 teams of the world's best youth sailors will be split into two groups of six teams:

LOCATION:
The race course for the Red Bull Youth America’s Cup will be the official America’s Cup race course on Bermuda’s Great Sound. The Red Bull Youth America’s Cup sailing base will be located in the heart the America’s Cup Village, next to the America’s Cup team bases.

The Red Bull Youth America's Cup Finals, which take place on June 20th and June 21st at 2:00pm ADT, will be able to view LIVE on AmericasCup.com, or on mobile devices via the America's Cup app.

COMPETITORS:
12 teams, with sailors aged between 18-24 years and nationals of the country that their Red Bull Youth America’s Cup team represents.

ORACLE TEAM USA, the Defender of the America’s Cup, will support and mentor both Team BDA, the Bermudian challengers for the 2017 Red Bull Youth America’s Cup, and Next Generation USA, the American representatives in the 2017 events.

BOATS:
All racing in Bermuda will be in the same one-design AC45 foiling catamarans the America’s Cup teams competed with in the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series. A fleet of 8x AC45Fs will be made available by ACEA, including a communal shore team whose mission is to help the 12 Red Bull Youth America’s Cup teams familiarize themselves with America’s Cup boat technology, handling and maintenance.
