The Red Bull Youth America’s Cup (RBYAC) will bring the best national youth teams to Bermuda for racing in 2017 during the 35th America’s Cup series. Up to 16 youth teams will take part in this unique series: six youth crews will compete in Bermuda through their affiliation with current America’s Cup teams. Up to 10 additional teams will be selected by Red Bull Youth America’s Cup Sport Directors, Roman Hagara and Hans-Peter Steinacher. The competition will be fierce: over 20 top youth sailing teams have applied for an entry and selection is underway.
Selected youth teams will race in a Qualifying Series to determine the top eight who will face off in two days of fleet racing scheduled during the week between the America’s Cup Finals week-ends.
Qualifiers: 12 June - 16 June
Finals: 20 June - 21 June
The race course for the RBYAC will be the official America’s Cup race course in the Great Sound. The RBYAC sailing base will be located in the heart the America’s Cup Village, next to the America’s Cup team bases.
Up to 16 teams, with sailors aged between 19-24 years and shall be nationals of the country that their Youth Team represents.
All racing in Bermuda will be in the same one-design AC45 foiling catamarans the America’s Cup teams compete with in the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series. A fleet of 8x AC45’s will be made available by ACEA, including a communal shore team whose mission is to help RBYAC youth teams get familiar with America’s Cup boat technology, handling and maintenance.
