NYYC AMERICAN MAGIC VISITS ITS FUTURE BASE FOR THE AMERICA'S CUP IN THE PORT OF BARCELONA

The Port of Barcelona is adapting the spaces that will be occupied by the five teams that will compete in the 2024 America's Cup, which have already chosen their locations in Port Vell. The construction of the bases is planned for the summer of 2023, once the preliminary work is finished and the projects presented by the teams are approved.

The Port of Barcelona is advancing in the adaptation of the spaces where the bases of the five teams participating in the 37th edition of the America's Sailing Cup, which will be held in Barcelona in 2024, will be located. The different teams have already chosen the locations of among those proposed by the port and adaptation work has begun, which in some cases has already been completed.

This is the case of Base MB92, where the American team, the NYYC American Magic, will be located. This base, located at the northern end of the facilities of the company Marina Barcelona 92, has been the first to have the space ready after carrying out several works during the month of August, culminating in the leveling of the surface and paving. Finally, the space has been made available to the team one month before the promised date.

Yesterday, a delegation from the NYYC American Magic team led by its general manager, John Michael Fauth, was able to visit the space where they will be installed, accompanied by the president of the Port of Barcelona, Damià Calvet, who explained the improvements made and acted as host for a brief visit to Port Vell where they could also see the locations of the bases of the rest of the teams.

And it is that the Port of Barcelona is working continuously to adapt the different spaces that have been made available to the organization of the America's Cup. The MB92 Base is already finished and in the hands of the American team, while the WTC Base, on the Barcelona quay and where the hosts and organizers of the event will be installed in 2024,  Emirates Team New Zealand, is in the process to adapt once some of the services that are currently in this terminal are relocated.

The Imax Base, which will be occupied by INEOS Britannia from the United Kingdom, will begin to be fixed in early 2023, after the preliminary works have been put out to tender. Also awaiting the start of construction is the CINESA Base, where the Swiss team Alinghi Red Bull Racing will be located. In this case, the CINESA building will have to be demolished first, works for which the project has already been presented and the means are ready, pending the approval of the corresponding building permit by the Barcelona City Council.

Finally, the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli Team will be based at the Levante Base, located at the end of Paseo Joan de Borbó. The Italian team is drafting the project for its base and working together with the Port of Barcelona to define its characteristics.

The dialogue between those responsible for the Port of Barcelona with all the teams has been, in fact, a constant in recent weeks with the aim of accompanying them in the process of designing and planning their bases, resolving doubts and exchanging information. The next step, by the teams, is to draw up the basic projects for the bases (building, crane and pontoons) so that, once they have been reviewed and authorized, they can begin their construction, work that is planned for the summer of 2023.
