WORLD SAILOR OF THE YEAR: RUGGERO TITA

The America’s Cup community sends its congratulations to Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli Team member Ruggero Tita for securing the World Sailor of the Year (Male) at a glittering World Sailing ceremony in the United Arab Emirates.
Hosted by America’s Cup commentator Shirley Robertson at the fabulous Yas Marina centre, home of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Ruggero Tita won from an incredibly strong field that included Nicolas Goyard, Jean Baptiste Bernaz, Burt Lambriex & Floris van der Werken.
World Sailing recognised Ruggero for his utter dominance in the Nacra 17 foiling catamaran class but what was even more special was that on the night, the award for World Sailor of the Year (Female) was Ruggero’s crew Caterina Marianna Banti.
The team of Tita & Banti have been virtually unbeatable since they teamed up after the Rio Olympic Games in 2016 in the mixed Nacra 17, winning the Gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics and the World and European titles in 2018. They currently sit at the top of World Sailing’s rankings in the class and are the hottest of medal prospects for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Congratulations to Ruggero and to the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli Team on this fabulous achievement. (Magnus Wheatley)
