EXPERIENCING THE LOUIS VUITTON 37TH AMERICA'S CUP AS A TEAM FAMILY MEMBER AND VOLUNTEER

Experiencing the America’s Cup as a Team Family Member and Volunteer The past 18 months of my life have been nothing short of extraordinary. As a family member of one of the competing America’s Cup teams in Barcelona, I have had the privilege of being part of one of the world’s most iconic sporting events while simultaneously living in one of Europe’s most beautiful cities. Besides, I've also seized the opportunity to volunteer for the Louis Vuitton 37th America's Cup, offering a unique behind-the-scenes perspective. This chapter has been more than just an experience—it has been an unforgettable journey.

Living in Barcelona: A Mediterranean Paradise
From the moment I touched down in Barcelona from the U.S., I was captivated by its energy and charm. The city is a unique blend of old-world European elegance and modern vibrancy. Waking up every day to views of the Mediterranean Sea, walking through the narrow streets of the Gothic Quarter, or sipping a café con leche in a local plaza—it has all felt like living in a postcard.

Between working and preparing for the Cup, I have spent my time here trying to absorb as much of the Catalan culture as physically possible. Dancing classes in Parc de la Ciutadella, hiking Northern Catalunya, cooking lessons in the homes of local iaia’s (grandmothers in Catalan), sharing wine while learning the secret, homemade recipes passed down through generations. Barcelona has been the most wonderful blend between dedicating my life to sport and immersing myself within a truly unique and beautiful culture.

Barcelona offers so much beyond its famous landmarks like the Sagrada Familia and Park Güell. The city's pulse lies in its people, its markets, its art and music, and its incredible love for sports. Every part of Barcelona is alive with history and culture, from its world-class museums and architecture to the spontaneous joy of performances and impromptu (and frequent!) street festivals. It’s a city where artistry meets the sea, and for someone who loves sailing, there couldn’t be a more perfect venue.

My Life with the America’s Cup
My involvement in the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup goes beyond just being a volunteer. As a family member to a teammate of American Magic, the Cup has been my entire life for 2.5 years. It has dictated where we live, when we move, when we have time off. It has consumed every waking thought – been the primary topic of every conversation, and the center of our universe. My life has completely revolved around this event, and it’s been an experience I’ll never forget.

To me, the America’s Cup is not just a job, and these are not just coworkers – it’s a true family. It’s more than a 9-5 (though it’s not even close to those hours!), it’s baby showers, bridal showers, birthday parties, and bachelorette parties. The community and lifelong friendships forged from this chapter are the same friends who recently attended my wedding. I have had the honor and privilege to be a part of something much larger than myself. The team has built such a strong community that it’s hard to imagine this chapter coming to a close. Such is the extremely bittersweet nature of the Cup – it’s all consuming until suddenly it’s over. Knowing I played even a small role in making this all possible is a feeling I’ll carry with me forever.

Volunteering for the America’s Cup
It’s my involvement with the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup as a volunteer that has truly made this period unforgettable. Being both part of a team and a volunteer has allowed me to witness firsthand the dedication, passion, and camaraderie that defines this prestigious event. The America’s Cup is not just a competition; it is a celebration of innovation, teamwork, and the spirit of sailing.

From being at dock-out to cheer on the athletes, to assisting in the Media Centre, every day brought something new and exciting. I’ve had the chance to befriend world-class sailors, witness cutting-edge sailing technology, and be part of a tradition that dates back over a century.

What made it even more special was the sense of unity among the volunteers. We come from different corners of the world, brought together by our shared passion for sailing and adventure. Despite our different cultures and cheering for different teams, the team spirit and connections I’ve created have made every moment worthwhile.

A Chapter I’ll Cherish Forever
The past 18 months have been a whirlwind of excitement, hard work, and pure joy. It’s been a chapter of my life that I’ll always look back on with pride and gratitude. The opportunity to live in Barcelona and be a part of the America’s Cup has shaped me in ways I couldn’t have imagined. I’ve learned new skills, met incredible people, and deepened my love for the sport of sailing.

As I reflect on this journey, I realize that it’s not just about the boats or the races, but about being part of something truly indescribable community. It’s about the spirit of adventure, the thrill of competition, and the deep connection we all share with the sea.
