CUP BLOG: LUNA ROSSA RAMPING UP
The seasonal holidays are certainly over for Luna Rossa down in Cagliari where their outstanding base on the promontory of the Molo Ichnusa is ramping up to full speed as the team prepare for the Pre-Regatta in their hometown in May.
The Italian team are busy on the water with their AC40s but equally so, off the water, the team have announced their official sponsorship of the Italian Sailing Federation with the partnership formalising a relationship that has already been well established and further expands the collaboration launched in 2022 with the FIV Foil Academy – Powered by Luna Rossa, created to develop young Italian talents in foiling sailing.

As part of the agreement, Luna Rossa and FIV will also collaborate on the technological development of boats and equipment, promoting research and innovation. The goal is to share expertise, experience, and know-how gained through America’s Cup campaigns to support the technical staff and high-performance athletes throughout their development pathway.
Max Sirena, CEO of Luna Rossa explained the partnership saying: “I am extremely pleased to launch this partnership, which strengthens a journey built over time on shared values and objectives. For years, the team and the Italian Sailing Federation have worked together on a project aimed at identifying and developing the next generation of sailing talent, and supporting FIV on the road to the next Olympic Games is a further step in that direction. Moreover, seeing the Luna Rossa logo on Olympic boats and alongside the young women and men preparing for the Los Angeles Games is a great source of pride for all of us.”

Italian sailing is very much on the up at the moment internationally, and success has come early in 2026 with a clean sweep at the recently concluded ILCA Under-21 World Championships where Italian sailors claimed gold in all three categories - ILCA 6, ILCA 7, and Under-19.
It’s all go in Italy! Good things happening.
