CUP BLOG: LA ROCHE-POSAY RACING TEAM: FIRST LAUNCH

A key milestone was passed today for the French Challenger for the Louis Vuitton 38th America’s Cup with the newly-named ‘La Roche-Posay Racing Team’ coming together in Lorient for their very first AC40 training session of the new cycle ahead of the Preliminary Regatta in Sardinia from 21-24 May.

Quentin Delapierre led the new-look team that included Diego Botín, Enzo Balanger, Jason Saunders , Amélie Grassi, Timothé Lapauw and Bruno Mourniac on a day where the conditions felt picture-perfect: clear blue skies, not a cloud in sight, and a steady easterly breeze of around 15 knots that elevated every moment on the water.

Unfortunately Florian Trittel, the Olympic Gold medal winner could not participate as he was unwell and Leigh McMillan is still recovering from shoulder surgery – both will be back in short order!

Philippe Presti, Sporting Director of La Roche-Posay Racing Team summed up the day saying: “Conditions in Brittany were exceptional today — bright sunshine, cloudless skies, almost summer-like warmth, and a perfect easterly breeze. Simply stunning. We came back in at sunset around 7:30 pm after nearly four and a half hours on the water. The day was structured around crew rotations, giving everyone the chance to experience the AC40. The newcomers got their first feel, while the more experienced sailors shared their insights and key learnings. An excellent first day. We’re hoping to build on this momentum tomorrow, with similar conditions forecast, before a short break this weekend and then a 15-day training block."

Back at the dock in the evening, the mood said it all: wide smiles and a clear eagerness to get back out there.

The hard work has begun — and it’s off to a strong start.
