ENVIRONMENT COURT GRANTS AMERICA’S CUP INFRASTRUCTURE RESOURCE CONSENTS
The Environment Court has granted Resource Consent to Panuku Developments for all of the team bases and associated infrastructure to be constructed to host the 36th America’s Cup in Auckland in 2021.
The Court concluded a two-day hearing on the 11th of this month and delivered its 260 page decision yesterday on the 25th of September.
America’s Cup Event Ltd spokesman Tom Mayo was very happy to see a swift resolution to the consent process due to an efficient collaborative approach by all stakeholders.
“The granting of this consent has been a result of a huge amount of work by a large number of people. From the event side we have been working very closely with the Auckland Council, the Government and all major stakeholders to work through all of the details in the most cost effective and efficient way possible.”
“Special mention should go to Panuku who have been the agency driving the resource consent and have done an incredible job.” Said Mayo
The Resource Consent approval literally sets the foundation to begin the exciting transformation of Auckland’s waterfront in the build-up to both the America’s Cup and APEC in 2021 both significant platforms to put Auckland and New Zealand on the world stage again.
Progress will begin imminently over the coming weeks and months with Emirates Team New Zealand and America’s Cup Events moving into the Viaduct Event Centre as well as the further construction of Hobson Wharf that will be the base for the Challenger of Record Luna Rossa. Further to this, the demolition of the hazardous substances tanks on Wynyard Point will take place as the first step to developing the site that will house the other Challengers.
