Officially the sixth challenger for the Louis Vuitton 38th America’s Cup in Naples, the Royal Prince Edward Yacht Club officially announced their challenge in May 2026.

Team Australia is backed by John Winning and family who so fantastically supported the Australian entries in the Youth & Women’s America’s Cup in Barcelona in 2024.

The team also confirmed that Tom Slingsby, Olympic gold medallist, two-time World Sailor of the Year and former International Moth World Champion, will skipper the team with support from three-time Cup winner Glenn Ashby as Head of Performance & Design.

Grant Simmer, famously a member of the winning ‘Australia II’ campaign in 1983 that ended the New York Yacht Club’s 132-year winning streak, is appointed as Team Head. Team Principle of Team Australia will be Vice Commodore of the RPEYC, Samuel Fay.

For Australia, this is the first time since 2000 that the national flag, the ‘blue ensign,’ will be represented in the pinnacle of yachting, the America’s Cup.

Further sailor signings and team announcements will be made in the coming weeks.
